75”x25”x19”. Maria is a life-size assemblage consisting of thousands of metal screws, chrome and silver parts. More than 600 hours went into her creation. The assemblage of Maria utilized hundreds of metal objects ranging from a martini shaker – to a kazoo. No detail was spared in her creation. Each of her hands is comprised of a full set of antique typewriter keys, held in place with screws and resin. Her face is a mosaic of hundreds of tiny mirrored tiles. Although originally inspired by Fritz Lang’s 1926 film, “Metropolis” Maria’s concept drastically evolved over the 14 months it took me to complete her. The acquisition of Maria’s “parts” actually began about 8 months prior to her assembly- so her overall completion time was just under two years.
